Manual Therapy Techniques
At OrthoSport + Spine, we use many techniques to accomplish our patient’s goals, but hands-on, manual care is at the heart of our success. Our treatments are guided by the latest scientific evidence and advanced physical therapy training. Through specialized training, we understand when to safely and effectively apply joint manipulation, joint mobilization, soft tissue manipulation, or focused strengthening techniques.
Manual therapy is used to decrease pain and improve the mobility of patients experiencing pain. This approach uses a combination of manipulation/mobilization techniques of joint and soft tissue designed to help patients reduce pain and restore their functional movement.
Therapeutic Exercise
Specific stretching, strengthening, and stabilization exercises are a critical part of the rehabilitation process. Used together with manual therapy to relieve symptoms and improve function. Therapeutic exercise programs are developed and tailored to the patient’s specific diagnosis. These long-term programs are designed to address pain and limitations and to increase the likelihood of future injury prevention. Restoring proper strength and mobility will ensure the low back remains pain free during all the stresses of daily activity.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
Certified therapists utilize universal assessment and treatment strategies that can be applied with special IASTM tools. We use a clear understanding of the mechanical principles of increased tissue perfusion, the localized inflammatory response and speed of tissue healing. A strong emphasis is placed on the neurophysiological principles of “less is more”, decreasing tone, decreasing threat and stimulation of mechanoreceptors to assist with improving movement. In addition, you will explore and discuss with your therapist various corrective exercises and kinesiology taping strategies for continued positive outcomes provided by IASTM. This technique aids in emphasizing cervical mobility, shoulder mobility, thoracic rotation, spinal flexion, knee flexion and many more, you will develop dynamic treatment options to progress you to the ultimate goal of functional movement with lasting outcomes.
Dry Needling
Dry Needling (DN) is a highly effective acupuncture technique that reduces pain and dysfunction in tight muscle bands or trigger points. Special assessment is done to determine if this treatment is right for you. When done properly by a skilled professional, you should experience minimal pain during and after treatment. DN is very effective for chronic or persistent muscle and joint problems that are resistant to other forms of therapy or chiropractic treatment. Dry Needling can also be used more localized to effectively treat more recent injuries.
Cupping
Involves the application of suction cupping, both static and dynamic cupping techniques. Techniques assist to reduce pain, reduce tone, and stimulate mechanoreceptors. This effective manual technique is implemented to help patients regain mobility more effectively by addressing both the soft tissue restrictions and the joint restrictions.
Kinesio Taping
The Kinesio Taping Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.
